The Southern Trust have a longstanding relationship with the Middlemore Foundation for Health Innovation which supports and raises funds for the health services provided by Counties Manukau Health.
Through the Middlemore Foundation, The Southern Trust has provided funding of $345,840 spread over three years for the Park Estate School which is part of the Mana- ā -riki pilot programme. Mana- ā -riki is an innovative programme to address issues in health, housing and education for some of New Zealand’s most vulnerable children. Lead by the community, it offers a sustainable, hand up out of the cycle of poverty.
Chief Executive Pam Tregonning says that the Southern Trust are receptive to innovative ideas such as Mana- ā -riki.
“We’ve worked together on an amazing range of projects including home insulation programmes, the funding of a CT scanner and a retinal screening camera for low decile schools”.
The Southern Trust were also founding sponsors of the Kidz First Children’s Hospital. The hospital is purpose built to deliver family centred health care and serve the culturally diverse Counties Manukau community.
Tregonning says that if they didn’t have the funding there are a lot of extras that the DHB wouldn’t be able to provide.
“It about more than just money, we’ve had a relationship for over 16 years, it’s a close relationship where we can share ideas and collaborate on proposals, and they’re very responsive”.
The trust have provided a wide level of support to the Middlemore Foundations, helping families insulate their homes supporting local school and providing support service throughout the community.
